--Caspar David Friedrich’s Winter Landscape 1811
Faith, Nature, Art
There against the snow
and barely emerging from the rosy ethereal mist
are three groups:
--a rock and small evergreen on the left
--a cluster of two large evergreens and rock at centre,
--and from the mist above, a cathedral,
reaching for the heavens,
much like the evergreen islands.
Two crutches have been flung
onto the snow,
for hidden amidst the branches of the large evergreen
is a wooden crucifix.
The last thing you see is a tiny man
leaning back on the rock,
taking in the miracles,
there on the snow, dead centre.
