Gravitational Disruptions
“…formed in a satellite galaxy that was gravitationally disrupted several billion years ago" -- Science, 15 November 2010

I try to stretch my mind around the thought
of a galaxy
"gravitationally disrupted."

I imagine God
shaking a can of a billion stars,
no bigger to Him
than grains of sand,
then flinging them into space.

I imagine a black hole
cruising suavely into the midst
of a backwater galaxy,
CHAOTIC MASSIVE TURMOIL!
Stars and planets flying this way and that!
Then hurtling inexorably down
to the event horizon.

I imagine the galaxy
scanning across the eons
until it comes to the edge of the page
and tumbles down into the space-time crack.

I recall your death
and understand it no better
than wild
astrophysical speculations
