“… general relativity…says that a gravitational field slows time down. …”

General Relativity

tells us that gravity
is a drag on time.

I wonder,
here from my base
on this slow Earth,
what time would feel like
to an earthling
at the extreme ends
of the gravity spectrum,
for example, on Venus or Jupiter

Or worse,
at the event horizon
of a black hole.
Would gravity’s inexorable
stranglehold on time
be like the soul’s annihilation,
slowing, then stopping all emotion and thought
imagination, love, memory
in a solid block of never?

Or at the other end
of the range,
out in space
beyond space
as time slipped its leash
and zoomed faster-than-a-lifetime-passing-before-your-eyes;
faster-than-Earth’s-entire-lifetime-passing-in-a-moment’s-breath.
would this streaking bright flash of eternity,
be a God’s-eye view,
everything-and-always-at-once and forever?
